Michael Kee was a loving son and brother, a talented hockey player, with many friends and a bright future ahead. But sadly, he passed away by his own hands at the tender age of just 17 years. After his death, Michael was diagnosed with schizophrenia. A bittersweet understanding came with this diagnosis. Finally, Michael’s sister Allison, and his parents Paul and Lori, as well as his younger sister Laura, all had an explanation for the struggles Michael always seemed to be living with during his adolescent and teen years, though it came too late to save him. St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation came away a big winner from the 118th Around the Bay Road Race. The Foundation had set a lofty goal of raising $240,000 in pledges for the 2012 signature fundraising event. Foundation President & CEO, Sera Filice-Armenio says “We’ll continue to see some pledges come in over the race weekend, but today, we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve exceeded our goal and raised an incredible $260,000 to support patient care and research at the Hospital.”
