25th Annual St. Joseph's Healthcare Foundation Golf Classic
One of Hamilton's premier golf tournaments, St. Joseph's Healthcare Foundation Golf Classic celebrated its 25th anniversary on June 10 at the Beverly Golf & Country Club. To commemorate this silver anniversary event, golfers enjoyed a pre-game lunch, contests, 18 holes of challenging golf and a celebration dinner. Since the tournament began in 1985, more than $800,000 has been raised for St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton with part of the proceeds from the event going to the Hospital's Mental Health and Addiction program. In addition to raising funds, the tournament honours Shirley Elford, a celebrated Canadian artist and a highly regarded Hamiltonian who is also an ambassador of St. Joseph's mental health program.
Celebrating the Legacy of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Hamilton
On June 1, more than 700 guests filled Carmen's Banquet Centre to celebrate the living legacy of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Hamilton. For the past 158 years, the Sisters have been a constant presence in the community, engaging in the ministries of education, healthcare, spiritual care and social services. Hosted by St. Joseph's Healthcare Foundation and St. Joseph's Villa Foundation, the evening highlighted the Sisters' ministerial work.
11th Annual Anne and Neil McArthur Research Award Dinner
In recognition of his innovative investigative work in the study of antimicrobial resistance and severe Gram positive skin and soft tissues infections, Dr. Donald Low, a physician at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, was honoured on May 5 with the Anne & Neil McArthur Research Award. Each year, this award - established in 2000 through a generous gift from Anne and Neil McArthur - honours an internationally renowned researcher whose area of study is also a focus of research at St. Joseph's.
Around the Bay Road Race
Thanks for going the extra mile! On March 28, more than 10,000 walkers, runners, spectators and sponsors converged on Hamilton's downtown core to take part in the 116th Annual Around the Bay Road Race in support of St. Joseph's Healthcare. Once all sponsorship and pledges were tallied, more than $155,000 was raised to support the Hospital's greatest needs. Next year's race takes place on March 27, 2011.
Cops, Cats and Caring Students
2010 marked the second year St. Joseph's Healthcare Foundation received funds from the growing Cops, Cats and Caring Students program. Between March 2 and April 23, members of the Hamilton Police Service, Hamilton Ti-Cat players and students from across the city played 16 basketball games - raising funds for healthcare in the community. St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton received a very generous $10,000.
