Lina DeSantis Golf Tournament Raises $100,000+

The 10th Anniversary of the Lina DeSantis Memorial Golf Tournament was held on Thursday, September 8, 2011 at Glendale Golf & Country Club.  Even the overcast skies couldn’t put a damper on the spirits of 144 golfers who shared both a passion for the game, and a desire to support St. Joseph’s Healthcare’s 100-year plus legacy of caring.

Through green fees, sponsorships, and charitable donations, the tournament topped $100,000 in funds raised this year—an all-time high.  Cumulatively, over the past decade, more than $700,000 has been raised through the memorial tourney to support the leading programs and services offered by St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton at its urgent care centre on King Street East.

Notable shots and scores:

Best Team - Walker, Nott & Dragicevic Associates Ltd.  (Peter Walker, Bob Careless, Marvin Geist & Al Duffy)

Straightest Drive, Female - Susan Azzopardi (from The Hamilton Spectator)

Straightest Drive, Male - Al Stevenson (from Comstock)

The tournament is named in memory of Lina DeSantis, the late wife of Hamilton-area real estate and development mogul Aldo DeSantis.  Lina was a long-standing member of St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation’s Board of Directors, and a passionate member of the Hospital’s golf and gala planning committees.  Sadly, Lina passed away in 2003, but the tournament she and Aldo created continues to honour her memory by supporting a cause that was close to her heart.
