At St. Joseph’s, we’re taking a bold step and creating a new state-of-the-art surgical centre to help us meet the growing needs of patients who live in the regions we serve.  Opening in the fall of 2011, the new surgical centre will feature 12 new operating rooms equipped with the latest image-guided and minimally invasive surgical equipment. 

 
St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton is already recognized by the province as a leader in specialized cancer surgeries. Our Hospital’s new cancer strategy will focus on making the journey of our patients as quick, comfortable, effective and efficient as possible.  By fully-integrating diagnostics, surgery, laboratory services, and palliative care, and working together with our partners in caring, we’ll provide a seamless continuum of treatment and support for patients and their families.  

For the 17,000 surgical patients we treat each year, the new surgical centre will help our surgeons to make smaller, more precise incisions that heal faster, with less scarring, while minimizing the chance of infection.  The centre will also help us to reduce wait times for surgery, and to fulfill our role as a teaching hospital for the healthcare professionals of tomorrow.

In essence, St. Joseph’s new surgical centre will make sure our patients are feeling better…sooner and returning to their life and their loved ones.
