Leading in Mental Health Care
Mental Health Care and More at St. Joseph’s New West 5th Campus
Science has proven that the brain is just like any other organ: it too can suffer from disease and dysfunction that manifest in mental illnesses across a broad spectrum of severity: from anxiety to depression, eating disorders to bipolar disorder, addictions to schizophrenia. Just as all of us will be affected by some sort of medical illness during our lifetime, it is also very likely that each and every one of us will be touched by mental illness.
That’s why, as the regional lead for mental health and addiction services in South Central Ontario, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton is constructing a healing place for the mind and body on our West 5th Campus. In addition to housing our mental health and addiction services, the new 800,000 square-foot building will offer clinical care and diagnostic services for the residents of our region. It’ll also house high-calibre research hubs and education space.
This new building embodies our long-standing belief that it’s time for mental illness to be regarded as what it is…an illness, just like any other: One that must be treated with dignity and respect.
