A Gift from ArcelorMittal Dofasco’s Employee Donations Fund Helps Drive Mental Health Care Forward
A generous $25,000 grant from the ArcelorMittal Dofasco Employee Donations Fund, administered by the Hamilton Community Foundation, is helping our Hospital’s Mobile Mental Health Clinic to meet the growing demand for care delivery within our community.
St. Joe’s mobile clinic originated as a pandemic-driven solution to provide clients of the Mental Health & Addictions Program with ongoing care while reducing foot traffic in Hospitals during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Today, nearly six years later, this innovative model has evolved into an essential support system for outpatients from the Schizophrenia Outpatient Clinic and the Transitional Outreach Program for the Schizophrenia Service.
Staffed by a dedicated team of nurses, St. Joe’s mobile mental health clinic travels to meet clients where they are, providing medication, bloodwork and face-to-face mental health care. Staff are also equipped to provide personal care items, food, water, and protective clothing during the winter months.
Whether visiting care homes in remote locations or connecting with individuals who lack stable housing, the team brings together multiple services under one roof to remove barriers to care and improve overall health outcomes.

Despite being a vital component of our mental health services, St. Joe’s mobile clinic isn’t funded by the operating dollars the Hospital receives from the province. To date, it’s been almost entirely funded through philanthropy.
Thanks to the generosity of the ArcelorMittal Dofasco Employee Donations Fund, this gift is bringing us one step closer to our goal of expanding the Mobile Mental Health Clinic’s operations from two days a week to three, allowing us to reach more individuals who would benefit from this program.
For more than 20 years, ArcelorMittal Dofasco has been a steadfast partner in advancing mental health care at St. Joe’s. They’re the presenting sponsor of A Mental Health Morning – our annual mental health fundraising breakfast, and a $1 million donation several years ago helped to build the Margaret & Charles Juravinski Centre for Integrated Healthcare on the West 5th Campus.
This latest gift is yet another example of the generosity of the company and its dedicated employees. We couldn’t be more grateful for their continued investment in the mental health of our community.
