A Miracle Worker 100 Times Over

Dr. Bobby Shayegan is one of the country’s top urologic robotic surgeons and Chief of Surgery at St. Joe’s. Using the da Vinci Xi robot, Dr. Shayegan performs the highest volume of robotic-assisted surgeries for prostate cancer in the country. But it isn’t just the number of surgeries he performs that makes Dr. Shayegan so impressive, it’s the compassion with which he treats every patient he meets.

Recently, Dr. Shayegan celebrated yet another remarkable achievement. He reached more than 100 nominations from grateful patients honouring him as a St. Joe’s Miracle Worker. To mark this milestone, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation presented Dr. Shayegan with a customized lapel pin.

I’m humbled. Humbled to know that I’ve been able to make a difference in the lives of so many patients to such an extent that they want to give back to make sure other patients facing similar circumstances have access to the very best care.”

Dr. Bobby Shayegan, Chief of Surgery at St. Joe’s

Many of the robotic surgeries performed at St. Joe’s are part of a series of research studies. Dr. Shayegan and his colleagues within the Boris Family Centre for Robotic Surgery are looking at the cost-effectiveness of robotic procedures, the impact robotics can have on length of stay in hospital, reducing post-operative complications, improving patient satisfaction and more.

When you choose to honour a St. Joe’s Miracle Worker, you not only touch the hearts of our care teams, you improve the lives of other patients, too! Every gift to our Miracle Worker program helps give back to St. Joe’s to ensure our care teams can continue making everyday miracles happen at our Hospital.

To date, over 500 individuals and care teams have been recognized as Miracle Workers.
