At ArcelorMittal Dofasco, their motto is: Our product is steel, our strength is people, so it comes as no surprise they are an organization that dedicates time, effort and resources to supporting the health and wellbeing of their employees, their families, and the Hamilton and area community.
Ever since 1984 – when Dofasco made its first recorded corporate donation to St. Joe’s – the Hamilton-founded and based company has been supporting the good health of our community. They have been essential to empowering St. Joe’s to deliver on its mission of providing exceptional care to those who need it most by supporting our Hospital’s greatest needs, funding research, and contributing to the building of the King Campus and the Margaret & Charles Juravinski Centre for Integrated Healthcare on the West 5th Campus.
But beyond providing generous large-scale gifts to the Hospital, in 2012 ArcelorMittal Dofasco began encouraging its own employees to support St. Joe’s by inviting them to join “Team Orange”, its corporate fundraising team in the iconic Around the Bay Road Race. Not only were they raising funds for a great cause, they were promoting activity among employees and their families, which is good for both the body and mind.
Soon after, in 2013, ArcelorMittal Dofasco became premier sponsor of A Mental Health Morning, a breakfast event supporting St. Joe’s Mental Health & Addiction Program. Ever since, the breakfast event has drawn record numbers of attendees including many of ArcelorMittal Dofasco’s own employees. More than 600 people attended the 2018 breakfast, featuring keynote speaker Margaret Trudeau, with the goal of breaking down stigma surrounding mental health and addiction while at the same time raising much-needed funds for the Hospital.
Also in 2018, ArcelorMittal Dofasco was presenting sponsor of St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation’s 21st annual Gala: Havana Nights. The evening included amazing auction items, fine food, exceptional entertainment and, best of all, comradery for a great cause. The funds raised will support robotic research, psychiatric emergency services and vital equipment purchases at St. Joe’s.
Thank you, ArcelorMittal Dofasco! St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and Foundation is tremendously grateful for your support of the work we do, your investment in the innovations that are on the horizon at St. Joe’s, and your commitment to a stronger, healthier workplace and community.
