Lending A Hand for Healthcare: Team LiUNA Meets Million-Dollar Fundraising Milestone
Raising funds for an important community cause can be a marathon, not a sprint. But one Around the Bay Race team has just crossed the finish line on cumulatively raising more than $1 million for St. Joe’s through their fundraising efforts over the years, and we couldn’t be more grateful.
The Laborers’ International Union of North America has had a consistent presence in the Bay Race since 2013. Since then, Team LiUNA Lending a Hand has taken the lead as St. Joe’s most successful fundraising partner in the race to date.
Familiar faces and friends like Riccardo Persi, Business Manager, LiUNA Local 837, and Joe Mancinelli, International Vice President and Regional Manager for the Central and Eastern Canada area of LiUNA, have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars each year as they took part in this historic event. And this year, as their team prepares for yet another race on March 26, Team LiUNA Lending a Hand is on pace to help our Foundation meet its fundraising goal of $500,000 to support our Hospital.
Funds raised from the 2023 race will help to expand our Special Care Nursery so St. Joe’s can care for more babies born prematurely or with a condition that requires specialized care. We’re also hoping to renovate the Hospital’s labour and delivery rooms to give babies and families the very best start possible. The remaining funds will help bring the latest breast diagnostic imaging equipment to St. Joe’s so that patients get the definitive answers they need, sooner.
Over the past 19 years, more than $5.1 million has been raised by Bay Racers who have laced up their sneakers to go the distance by raising funds to support patient care and research at St. Joe’s. You can help by making a gift to a team or participant, or signing up to walk, run and raise funds in the Bay Race, too
