Lowest of the Low and Ace of Wands Headline Guitar Strings and Kidney Things®
Funds raised to support Kidney Transplantation and Care at St. Joe’s
A concert for a cause. A gig that gives back. No matter what you call it, we’re amped up to announce that Guitar Strings and Kidney Things® returns this fall! Don’t fight the feeling, join us to see indie legends, Lowest of the Low, and dream rock band, Ace of Wands on Friday, October 25 at Bridgeworks, while raising funds to support kidney care at St. Joe’s.
Guitar Strings and Kidney Things® is a benefit concert organized by David and Ken Angus. In 1997, at the age of 19, David received a kidney transplant from his father, Ken. This marked a new start in David’s life after living with kidney diseases since he was six months old.
As the 20th anniversary of his kidney transplant approached, David decided to commemorate the occasion by organizing a charity concert to raise awareness and funds to support other Hamiltonians living with kidney disease. With his father on board, Guitar Strings and Kidney Things® was born.
“It is a unique position to be in, having lived with a kidney transplant for 27 years now,” shares David. “We are also in a unique position where we can tell our story, and raise awareness about the thousands of people living with kidney disease that the dedicated team at St Joe’s provides care for. Without their compassion, empathy and advocacy for the quality of life of those with kidney disease, our story could never be told.”
Their story, combined with a passion to give back to the St. Joe’s, is what has made Guitar Strings and Kidney Things a successful event, year after year.
“Since 2016, Guitar Strings & Kidney Things has been able to contribute profits to kidney care programming in Hamilton, with over $47,000 supporting St. Joseph’s Healthcare in Hamilton, Ontario,” shares Ken Angus. “This is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to this great organization for all of their hard work and innovation in providing renal care for those in need.”
In addition to the bands, attendees can count on a fantastic silent auction including signed musical memorabilia, gift cards, behind the scenes experiences and more, all while supporting kidney care at St. Joe’s.”
“We are motivated by those whose lives have been affected by kidney disease to make a continued difference in the kidney community,” share David and Ken. “We hope you can join us on October 25, 2024 and help us make this another successful night for St. Joe’s.”
