Slurp for St. Joe’s: How Menya Kyu is Supporting Hamilton’s Hosptial

For just over a year, Menya Kyu has been serving delicious and authentic Japanese ramen to the Hamilton community out of their 154 James St. S. location. While the restaurant is best known for their signature Jidori items, they also offer donburi and dishes that are vegan and gluten-friendly, catering to the needs of every customer they meet.

And the community has noticed. Menya Kyu was the proud winner of not one, but two Reader’s Choice Awards for their craveable cuisine. But the impact of this new restaurant goes far beyond tantalizing tastebuds and creating a space where executive chef Yoshiyuki’s ramen can bring joy, comfort, and a taste of tradition.

Since August 2024, the restaurant has been a proud cause-marketing partner to St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation. On Fridays, $1 from every full-sized ramen bowl sold supports the care provided by St. Joe’s – the Hospital that’s home to the busiest emergency department in the City and the one that happens to be right across the street from their restaurant.

In November 2024 – the arrival of cold weather in Hamilton inspired their most successful month yet when Menya Kyu was able to donate more than $300 to the Hospital. In total, slurping for St. Joe’s has generated nearly $1,000 and we’re incredibly grateful!

“Although the scale of impact is very different, I feel that St. Joe’s and Menya Kyu have something in common, which is that we both care about the well-being of the area we serve and want to strengthen our connection with that community,” shares restaurant owner, Yuki. “Our donation is very little, but we want to contribute to those in need, whether it’s patients or families who rely on medical care. That’s why we’re making regular donations to St. Joe’s.”
