THAO TRUONG FROM HAMILTON WINS BIG ON HER BIRTHDAY
She’s the winner of a $56,685 jackpot in
St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation’s
First 50/50 Lottery for the Community
The Hospital wins, too, as 50 percent of ticket sales
will support highest-priority needs
Dec. 31, 2020 – HAMILTON, ON – Yesterday, Thao Truong from Hamilton received a call from Sera Filice-Armenio, President & CEO, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation, letting her know she was the holder of the winning ticket (#4327400) in the Foundation’s Hope, Health & Holiday Wishes 50/50 lottery. Thao found out on her birthday that she had won a grand total of $56,685—exactly half of the total ticket sales.
“When I received the phone call, I thought it was a birthday prank. I have never won anything this big, especially on my birthday! Best birthday gift ever. Thanks to St. Joe’s and this lottery for giving me a chance, and best of luck to the future winners out there,” says Truong.
St. Joe’s Foundation is very happy about the outcome, too. “When we embarked on the lottery it was a new initiative for our Foundation, so we weren’t sure what to expect,” says Ms. Filice-Armenio. “But the response has been very positive. People were excited about a new way to support the Hospital and the chance to win big while doing so. Making the call to our winner yesterday was such a great experience…to hear the sheer surprise and delight in her voice…well, it’s everything we hoped it would be. It was our chance to bring some joy to the winner while also raising significant funds to support St. Joe’s. We’re grateful to everyone who participated.”
The remaining half of ticket sales (a total of $56,685) will go directly towards funding the greatest needs of the Hospital including COVID-19 related equipment, supplies and research. The Hope, Health & Holiday Wishes 50/50 Lottery was operated by St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation under licence #RAF1197694 issued by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. The winning ticket number was drawn using an automated, randomized number generation system including all verified online ticket purchases.
